How reyclable is your car? The answer depends on the material used to create the vehicle and how efficiently it can be formed into new products. Compared with conventional and Advanced High Strength Steels, alternative materials give off DOUBLE the amount of GHGs to recycle them. The LCA research community is still evaluating the best ways to account for carbon reductions or "credits" from recycling materials, such as steel. However, the GHG emitted from recycling scrap materials into new products, also known as "Secondary Production," is easily measured.
